Packing is one of the most time-consuming parts of any move, but with the right strategy, it doesn’t have to be. At MoveWithJoy, we’ve helped hundreds of families, students, and business owners across Wrexham streamline their move with smart, simple packing techniques.

Here are our favourite packing hacks to help you save time, cut costs, and stay organised every step of the way.

1. Start With a Clear Plan (and Stick to It)

Don’t just grab a box and hope for the best. Plan which rooms you’ll pack first, and set daily goals to avoid last-minute stress.

📦 Pro Tip: Start with the least-used spaces (loft, spare room, garage) and leave essentials (kitchen, toiletries, kids’ gear) until last.

2. Don’t Pay for Boxes—Ask Around First

Boxes can be expensive when bought in bulk. Check with local shops, supermarkets, or even your workplace for free sturdy boxes.

If you’re storing items, ask us about our secure, stackable storage crates—ideal for short- or long-term storage.

3. Use What You Already Have

Suitcases, laundry baskets, gym bags—they all hold more than you think.Use:

  • Blankets & towels as padding

  • Socks to protect glasses

  • Bins & drawers to transport lighter items

It reduces waste, saves on packing materials, and keeps things simple.

4. Label EVERYTHING (Then Label It Again)

It sounds obvious—but unlabelled boxes are the #1 reason for moving day delays.

Label each box on at least two sides with:

  • Room it belongs to

  • A brief description (e.g. “kitchen – plates”)

  • “Fragile” if needed

Colour coding with tape or stickers is a game-changer too—especially if you’ve got helpers.

5. Photograph Your Electronics Before Unplugging

Taking apart TVs, computers, or entertainment systems? Snap a photo of the cables and setup first. It’ll make reconnecting them in your new home a breeze.

6. Create an ‘Essentials’ Box (Trust Us)

Set aside one clearly marked box for first-night necessities:

🪥 Toiletries

🍽️ Cutlery & mugs

🔌 Chargers

🛏️ Bedding

📄 Important documents

You’ll thank yourself when you arrive tired, hungry, and just want a cuppa and a place to crash.

7. Don’t Overpack Your Boxes

Cramming boxes to save on quantity is risky. Heavy boxes are harder to carry, more likely to break, and can cause injury.

✅ Aim for a max of 20kg per box

✅ Use small boxes for heavy items (like books)

✅ Top with light items (like pillows)

8. Keep Tools Handy for Flat-Pack Furniture

If you're dismantling beds or tables, pack a basic tool kit separately, and label the screws and fittings in sandwich bags taped to the item. No one wants to play “guess the bolts” at 9pm on moving day.

🎯 Final Tip: Let Professionals Help

Even with the best hacks, moving is a big job. That’s why the MoveWithJoy team is here to take the pressure off.Whether you need full packing support, packing materials, or just an extra set of hands, we’re ready.
